NeurosurgeonA neurological surgeon, or neurosurgeon, is a surgeon who specializes in treating the nervous system, including the brain, spinal column, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Neurosurgeons diagnose, prevent, treat, and rehabilitate for disorders such as osteoporosis, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and trauma such as whiplash. Neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons can both specialize in spinal surgery, although this isn't a separately accredited field yet. By the time a neurosurgeon graduates from training, he or she will have plenty of experience with the nervous system. Neurosurgeons must attend four years of college, which is followed by four years of medical school. This, in turn, is followed by six- or seven-year residency programs. After that, for further specialization, they may elect to pursue one- or two-year fellowships in spinal surgery. Neurosurgeons and Orthopedic Surgeons at the Bonati InstituteHere at The Bonati Institute, we have both neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons on staff to provide a well-rounded, multi-disciplinary approach to your care. If you need spinal surgery for a condition such as degenerative disc disease, arthritis, pinched nerves, or radiculitis, you might be interested in our minimally invasive procedures, which Dr. Alfred Bonati has been performing for nearly 25 years. We encourage you to research your disorder and learn about your anatomy before making an informed choice about surgery. Learn all you can about your medical, non-medical, and surgical options and whether they will correct the problem and relieve your symptoms. Finally, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about our procedures, or to find out whether they would benefit you.
