FibrosisThe Bonati Institute performs hundreds of surgeries each year on patients’ spinal discs and annuli fibrosis. The annulus fibrosis is the ring of ligaments that surround your spinal discs. The discs are the jelly-like cushions that are in between the vertebrae. A tear in the annulus fibrosis is also known as a slipped or herniated (ruptured) disc, where the inner core of the disc bulges out through the annulus fibrosis. If you tear your annulus fibrosis, you’ll usually feel a sharp pain in your back. In the majority of people, it occurs in the lower lack. Pressure from the disc on a spinal nerve can cause more back pain and it can also cause pain in the part of the body that the particular nerve serves, such as arm or leg pain. Annulus Fibrosis TearsMost patients with herniated discs do not require surgery. In fact, only about one percent of people with back trouble ever need surgery. Most of the time, treatment for a herniated disc includes rest followed by controlled exercise combined with medication. If the problem is not resolved after a certain period of time, depending on your situation, your doctor might recommend surgery. At The Bonati Institute, we perform laser-assisted, minimally invasive spinal surgeries that correct herniated discs. This type of surgery involves less bleeding, no hospital stay, and a shorter recovery time than with more traditional surgeries. It is much less traumatic to muscles and surrounding tissues also. If you think you are a good candidate for our Institute, please contact us today to discuss your condition.
