Discectomy

Arthroscopic (endoscopic) discectomy is one of the procedures we perform frequently at The Bonati Institute. Your vertebrae are separated by jelly-like cushions called discs. When discs are damaged or ruptured because of degenerative disease, accidents, or other causes, you can feel pain or numbness in your back or neck, arms or legs. Using patented instruments and advanced surgical techniques, we remove damaged discs (discectomy) and bone spurs from your spine with virtually none of the complications of traditional surgery.

You might benefit from The Bonati Institute's discectomy procedures if:

• You have one or more herniated (ruptured) discs
• You have lower back pain
• You have pain in your neck or limbs
• Physical therapy, pain-relieving drugs, rest, or exercise do not help
• Your CT or MRI scan shows that your disc is herniated
• Your CT or MRI scan indicates your need for a discectomy

The Bonati Discectomy Procedures

During our procedures, you will be given a sedative and a local anesthetic to numb the area being treated. You will be awake for the surgery but won't feel a thing, and your recovery time will be much shorter than it would be with traditional "open" back surgery.

If you experience chronic pain in your neck or back, see your doctor for a diagnosis. She will most likely treat your condition with non-surgical methods first. If other methods fail to relieve your pain, she might recommend discectomy.
